Build It Simple ("we", "us") provides job management software for construction companies - scheduling, dispatch, daily field reports, submittals and job records - on the web and in the Build It Simple mobile app. This policy explains what information we handle, how it's used, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information - name, email address, phone number, position and password for people who sign in.
- Field personnel information - names, trades, positions and mobile phone numbers that a company enters for its own employees so it can schedule and dispatch them.
- Job information - job names, addresses, daily field reports, crew hours, photos, signatures, submittals and related records that a company and its employees enter.
- Technical information - basic logs such as sign-in times and device or browser type, used to keep the service secure and working.
The mobile app
- Camera and photos - the app uses the camera, or photos you pick from your library, only when you add photos to a daily field report, extra work order, job photos or draft RFI. It saves a photo to your library only when you choose to. The app doesn't look through your photo library.
- Location - when you start a daily field report, the app asks for your location to fill in that day's weather. The location is sent to our weather provider to look up the weather, and is saved with that daily field report. The app only uses your location while you're using it, never in the background, and you can decline - the report works without it.
- Signatures - signatures drawn on the screen (for example on an extra work order or a safety meeting sign-in sheet) are saved with that record.
- No tracking or ads - the app has no advertising and no analytics or tracking tools, and doesn't follow you across other apps or websites.
How we use information
- To provide the service - showing jobs, building schedules, generating reports and storing records.
- To send dispatch text messages to employees about their work assignments (see below).
- To keep accounts secure and to fix problems.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Text messages (SMS)
Companies using Build It Simple can send dispatch text messages to their own employees - for example the job, address and start time for the next work day. These messages are sent only to employees whose mobile number was provided to their employer for work purposes.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile phone numbers and text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with or sold to any third party. The only exception is the text messaging provider that delivers the messages on our behalf, which uses the number solely to deliver them.
- Message frequency varies with work scheduling - typically up to one message per work day.
- Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan.
- To stop receiving text messages, reply STOP. You'll receive one confirmation and no further messages. You can also ask your employer to remove your number.
- For help, reply HELP or contact us using the form on our website.
How information is shared
Information is shared only with service providers that run the service for us, and only as needed to provide it:
- Microsoft Azure - cloud hosting and storage, and text message delivery (Azure Communication Services).
- Open-Meteo - receives the location of a new daily field report to look up that day's weather. No name or account details are sent with it.
- Anthropic - when office staff upload a supplier quote on the website and ask Build It Simple to read it, the quote document is sent to Anthropic's AI service to pull out its details.
Information within a company's account is visible to that company's own signed-in users, according to the access their administrator gives them. Information may also be disclosed if required by law.
How information is protected
Information is stored with Microsoft Azure in the United States, sent over encrypted connections, and available only to signed-in users of the company it belongs to.
How long information is kept
Information is kept for as long as the company that entered it uses Build It Simple, or until it asks for it to be deleted.
Your choices
You can ask your employer, or us, to correct or delete your information, and you can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP. You can turn off the app's access to your camera, photos or location at any time in your device's settings.
Deleting your account
Accounts are created by each company's administrator. To delete your account, ask your company's administrator, who can remove it in Build It Simple, or send us a request through the contact form on our website and we'll delete it within 30 days. Records your company needs to keep (such as daily field reports you submitted) stay with the company's account.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
